Call for country nominations to the Group of Experts for Strengthening Regional Cooperation on Social Protection in Asia and the Pacific

The ESCAP secretariat is establishing a group of experts consisting of official representatives of ESCAP members and associate members, with the aim of developing a modality for strengthening regional cooperation on social protection.

The ESCAP Committee on Social Development, on its fifth session held in November 2018, highlighted the critical need to strengthen regional cooperation on social protection in Asia and the Pacific to jointly accelerate action in developing inclusive social protection. Currently, 60% of our region’s population does not have adequate social protection [watch video]. Asia-Pacific developing countries also only spend 3.7% of their GDP on social protection, which is less than one-third the global average.

All ESCAP members and associate members are invited to join the Group of Experts, which will be supported by a joint ESCAP–ILO secretariat.
