Consultation on the Fiji Voluntary National Review 2019
The Government of Fiji plans to deliver a Voluntary National Review (VNR) Report at the 2019 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development and is establishing institutional structures and mechanisms for wider the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The VNRs seek to promote the monitoring of progress, the sharing of experiences and the acceleration of action for implementation. In addition, VNRs aim to assess policy and strengthen institutional arrangements to catalyse multi-stakeholder engagement in the context of the 2030 Agenda.
UNESCAP, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and the different ministries from the Government of the Republic of Fiji is organizing a consultation, back to back to the Pacific Preparatory Meeting for the 6th Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD) to 1) present the updated guidelines for the preparation of a VNR; 2) present possibilities of engagement of national stakeholders in the VNR process; 3) discuss challenges such as data availability of data 4) provide the opportunity for the UN system to further consolidate its support for the production of the VNR and integration of the 2030 Agenda overall
The consultation proposes to share with the government the main steps and methodologies required for the preparation of the VNR and hopes to agree with the government and other partners on the next steps, where support might be needed in the coming year, for the preparation of the report. This could include technical assistance for the coordination of the report drafting, strengthening data collection and analysis, strengthening institutional coordination mechanisms and capacities and quality of engagement of stakeholders and public participation for the VNR process.
