EQUIVALENCE: An Exhibition by Chow and Lin
In conjunction with the seventy-fifth session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific and its theme of empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality, the ESCAP secretariat is hosting the Equivalence exhibition by Chow and Lin, a Beijing-based, Singaporean-Malaysian artist duo who have exhibited internationally in museums and academic institutions.
Equivalence investigates the state of the economy, social inequality and consumption patterns via statistical, mathematical and computational techniques. Two bodies of work will be featured in this exhibition, with more than a thousand photographs on display. The Equivalence – Cans series uses the visual assembly of 1,000 photographs of aluminium cans to draw a parallel with the facelessness of vulnerable populations in society. Equivalence – 100:1 juxtaposes the value of ready-made, consumable items against common basic food items.
Venue: Ground floor, UNCC
Exhibition dates: 27-31 May 2019
The exhibition was opened by Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, on 27 May 2019 at 18:00 hrs.
