PAVILION OF PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE FIFTH SESSION OF COMMITTEE ON ENVIRONMENT AND DEVELOPMENT
The fifth session of the Committee on Environment and Development (CED) will be held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok from 21 to 23 November 2018. This is the first meeting of the Committee since the Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development held in September 2017, when senior environment officials from around the region shared perspectives on policies to address critical environmental issues such as resource efficiency and pollution, and emphasized the need to build partnerships to address environmental and development challenges.
The Committee will review the secretariat’s analysis of existing, new and emerging issues to address the sustainable management of environment and natural resources as the region still faces significant risks from environmental degradation, including impacts exacerbated by climate change, which threaten human livelihoods, health and well-being. Unmet environmental challenges can also undermine efforts to achieve food security, end extreme poverty and hunger and ensure healthy lives, especially for populations dependent on natural resources. The Committee will also review secretariat support for the implementation of the Ministerial Declaration on Environment and Development for Asia-Pacific, 2017 adopted at the Ministerial Conference.
In conjunction with the session, limited space is available to support a ‘Pavilion of Partnership’, which will allow stakeholders to further support the discussions and serve as an exhibition of best practices in the region relevant to the Committee’s dialogue.
To join the Pavilion, kindly fill in the registration form and indicate your interest in exhibiting to Ms. Piyapat Nakornchai at firstname.lastname@example.org by 2 November 2018.
