Second National Dialogue on the Urban Nexus in Thailand

2 Mar 2017
Bangkok, Thailand

The National Dialogue on the Urban Nexus in Thailand was organized on 2 March 2017 in Bangkok, Thailand in the context of the project “Integrated Resource Management in Asian Cities: the Urban Nexus”, implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and ESCAP, and financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Several regional and national workshops have been organized under the project so far which provided an opportunity for city governments to exchange experiences and start a dialogue with national governments and other relevant stakeholders to discuss the elements of an enabling framework for urban nexus initiatives to thrive.

Building on the recommendations from the concluded regional workshops and the successful discussions that took place at the first national policy dialogue in Thailand in 2015, the second national dialogue on the Urban Nexus in Thailand aimed to promote dialogue among various levels of government (local, provincial, national) and among various relevant line ministries, identify solutions to specific challenges arising from city level nexus implementation, and review existing and planned regulations, policies and initiatives at the national level with a view to identify the entry points for the application of the urban nexus initiatives in particular in the partner cities. This platform also discussed the relevance of nexus initiatives for the achievement of internationally agreed development agendas, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the New Urban Agenda.
