Small Islands Developing States (SIDS) Regional Preparatory Meeting of the Pacific

19 Jun 2018 to 21 Jun 2018
Nuku'alofa, Tonga

ESCAP is assisting UNOHRLLS and DESA in the convening of the Pacific regional preparatory meeting to review the implementation of the SAMOA Pathway at the national and regional levels. The meeting is being held in Nuku’alofa, Kingdom of Tonga, from 19-21 June 2018. Pacific small island developing states (SIDS) will discuss the achievements, challenges and gaps in the implementation of the SIDS regional priorities in the Pacific, and agree on a priority list of actions as well as identified practical and pragmatic action-oriented strategies or mechanisms for accelerating the implementation of the SAMOA Pathway in the region. The outcome of the meeting – as well as outcomes from the other two regional SIDS meetings in Mauritius and Belize - will be presented at the inter-regional SIDS meeting in November 2018 in Samoa, to formulate a final global assessment of SAMOA Pathway implementation, for reporting to the UN General Assembly in 2019.
