The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in partnership with the Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG), Seoul Digital Foundation (SDF), World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO), will host the 2018 Urban Innovation Challenge: Citypreneurs Young SDGs Start-Up Competition on 31 October in Seoul.

The Citypreneurs competition brings together start-up entrepreneurs from around the world to pitch innovative solutions to some of the region’s most critical urban challenges. This year’s competition themes include green energy, urban mobility and social protection.

Participating young entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to not only win prizes, but also gain recognition, mentor support and garner investment funds to turn their innovations into practical solutions that help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event will also feature a Policy Interface session to discuss public-private partnerships and policies that can strengthen the impact start-up ecosystem in the region, with a special focus on leveraging the potential of youth.
